What Does the flag: Dominican Republic Emoji 🇩🇴 Mean?

A white cross divides the flag into four panels — two blue and two red alternating — with the national coat of arms at the center showing a Bible, cross, and laurel and palm branches over the motto 'Dios, Patria, Libertad' (God, Homeland, Liberty). Blue represents liberty, red stands for the blood of heroes, and white the salvation of the nation. The DR is the only national flag in the world featuring a Bible.

Adopted in 1844 at independence from Haiti. The emoji shows up during Independence Day (February 27), baseball-season posts (the DR produces tons of MLB stars), and Punta Cana vacation recaps. Travelers tag it with merengue and bachata dance shots, Zona Colonial photos in Santo Domingo, and Saona Island beaches.

Coded in Unicode 6.0 from DO, it pairs with baseball, dance, and palm-tree emojis. Diaspora in the US (especially NY) uses it heavily. The flag's design was created by Juan Pablo Duarte, one of the country's founding fathers.

Bachata legend Juan Luis Guerra and merengue king Johnny Ventura often appear in flag-tagged music posts celebrating Dominican cultural exports worldwide.
