According to legend, Saint Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Christian Trinity to the Irish in the 5th century, and the plant has been linked to Irish national identity ever since. Texters use it nonstop around March 17th for parade posts, green-beer photos, Irish-pride captions, and pub crawls.

Beyond Saint Patrick's Day, it appears in posts about Ireland and Irish heritage year-round, plus content from Boston, New York, Chicago, and other US cities with big Irish-American populations. Some users confuse it with the four-leaf clover, but the shamrock is specifically three-leafed and symbolic of Ireland, while the four-leaf version is rarer and stands for general good luck. Added to Unicode 4.1 way back in 2005, it's one of the oldest plant emojis on the keyboard.

The deeper, slightly darker green coloring distinguishes it from the brighter clover icon.

The ☘️ shamrock emoji means Ireland, Saint Patrick’s Day, and Irish heritage — three-leafed national symbol.

[1205
post-7020","emoji","type-emoji","status-publish","hentry","emoji_category-animals-nature
["GET
